A good band with a big following can make exactly the same as a bad band with a huge following, and that can be alot of money.
Your pay in bars has little to do with how good you are.
It's eventually about how much you can make the cash register ring.
If you are bringing a crowd that are 30% "bigger spender's" than the bar usually experiences, then it is easy to justify a 30% premium above their average band rates to the bar management.
Just like any other business anywhere.
If you make them a ton of money, the money is there for your to get your share.
HOWEVER.

If you are the best band in the entire region, and no one comes to your gigs, you are of little economic value, and therefore the pot of $$$ that you can extract your pay from, does not exist.
