*GENERAL DESCRIPTION:*
The Manager of the Department of Planning & Sustainability will be responsible for leading the City’s Sustainability Programs, Resiliency Initiatives and Projects, as well as the Comprehensive Planning and Zoning decisions.
The Manager will be responsible for the supervision of three staff members, which includes a Naturalist, Environmental Scientist II, and the City Planner.
The Manager will also be responsible for being a staff liaison to the Sustainability Board, the Planning Advisory Board and the Board of Adjustment.
This position reports to the Assistant City Manager and the City Manager.

· Manage the City’s Sustainably Action Plan and associated projects.
· Maintenance of City land developments and regulations, and comprehensive plans.
· Oversee the collection, analysis, and presentation of data related to all aspects of urban planning, sustainability and resiliency.
· Perform cost/ benefit analyses for future sustainability projects within the City
· Supervise staff within the department, and manage the delegation of work for all sustainability, planning, and resiliency projects for the City.
This will involve maintaining a log / schedule of all sustainability projects and overseeing the timeliness and completion of each project.
· Assist department team in grant writing and acquisition and oversee final approval of all grants, with assistance from City Manager
· Assist department team in creating RFPs and bid processing.
· Manage long range comprehensive planning and amendments to the City’s zoning code.
· Oversee the processing and review of development applications, staff reports to the Planning Advisory Board and to City Council.
· Complete technically complex planning assignments.
· May serve as the project lead on multifaceted programs.
· Navigate environmental regulations and environmental approval processes.
· Work with regulatory agencies and diverse stakeholders, department officials, managers, staff, and the public regarding projects, permit compliance, and other activities.
· Review of reports, records, and assessments relevant to the position.
· Participate in meetings with government agencies, consultants, and engineers.
· Manage and approve the Department’s annual budget and expenditures.
· Represent the City throughout the County and State in areas of Planning, Sustainability, and Resiliency.
*EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:*
* A Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of professional experience, AICP preferred, or a Bachelor’s Degree a related field and 7+ years of experience; and
* 2+ years Supervisory experience; and
* A career desire to address the challenges of Climate Change, the desire to use Sustainable practices to address our challenges, and the desire to use innovative urban planning and engineering practices to address them.
A strong desire to learn, create, and use practices that will better our City, County and Region, and the desire to be community leader in such.
* The ability to work within a small City environment and with other Departments to carry out the purpose of the Department of Planning and Sustainability.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $66,212.
